Usability

I looked at a site called http://www.netmechanic.com/news/vol7/design_no4.htm and there is a section on there about usability checklist, written by senior web analyst ‘Larisa Thomason.
1. Design a clear and simple navigation system – a good navigation system should answer three questions:-
- Where am i?
- Where have i been?
- Where can i go?
2. Keep the content clear and simple – eye catching designs are good but its the content that keeps the users at the site and returning, content also boosts the site in search engine rankings.
3. Support you brand – this can create or reinforce a users impression of the site.
4. provide visitor feedback
5. Test the site on real users
I feel that all of the points are relevent when looking at usability, the site goes into alot of detail on each point, making it easy to follow and to understand. The site explains about colour, text font, style, layout as well as much more.

The website does really break down the areas that you have highlighted and gives you all of the information that you would need on usability.
The site helps you decide on what layouts and colour you need and should take into consideration when creating your own website.

I totally agree with the idea of giving users the option to provide site feedback. This is probably the best way you can update your site and make it more usable.
